Blindfolded International was birthed from the documentary Blindfolded: How They Hid My Heritage From Me. Inspired by Edwin Sheppard’s research in Botswana and South Africa, the film highlighted how African Americans in the U.S. have been misled about what Africa is truly like. Featuring student dialogue between Miami Central High School in Florida and Ledumang Senior School in Gaborone, Botswana, the documentary sparked the creation of an organization committed to fostering unity, understanding, and empowerment through cultural exchange. Today, Blindfolded International provides young people with opportunities to experience the world beyond their borders while reconnecting them with the African heritage that has too often been hidden or overlooked.
