Who We Are

BISCEP provides intercultural learning opportunities to help high school-aged students develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to create well-rounded individuals. The immersion program helps students from the United States and Botswana emerge together in language acquisition, analytical and problem-solving, and responses to global issues. Recently, ten Miami Central Senior High School students went to Botswana as cultural exchange students.

BISCEP was birthed from the documentary Blindfolded: How They Hid My Heritage From Me. A creative expression based on Edwin Sheppard's research in Botswana and South Africa shows how African Americans in the U.S. have been misled about what Africa is really like. The documentary included student dialogue from Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida, and Ledumang Senior School in Gaborone, Botswana.
